Two Oakland teenagers have been charged with murder in connection with the beating and stomping of 55-year-old Piliip Fai Low, who may have been sleeping in a West Oakland park and who was apparently known to the boys, who lived in the neighborhood.
Jabari Jones, 19 and Breshawn Clark, 18, were allegedly seen by witnesses punching and stomping Low around 12 a.m. last Wednesday, February 22, and returning to to inflict further injuries on the prone man two more times by 8 a.m. As the East Bay Times reports, Jones is accused of doing the majority of the beating, and Clark is "accused of pushing Low into some puddles, not stopping the attacks and helping move Low’s body." Police have not discussed a motive in the attack.
The incident happened in Lowell Park, on the 1000 block of 12th Street. Witnesses also saw the two teens put Low in a shopping cart at one point.
According to KRON 4, it was a 12-year-old boy who called 911 Wednesday morning after seeing Low lying in the park, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Also, allegedly, the boys stole $1.14 from the victim.
Jones and Clark are expected to appear in court to enter pleas on March 20.
