In a banner year for Bay Area Grammy Award nominations — 18 local artists and producers got the nod according to the Chronicle — one who walked away with a little gold phonograph was Fantastic Negrito. The Oakland musician, whose given name is Xavier Dphrepaulezz, won acclaim along with his 2015 NPR Tiny Desk Concert and has been touring on his *Grammy Award-winning* album The Last Days of Oakland. According to a post on his Facebook page, the award itself is a "a little heavy."

To share just one track from this guy is difficult, but here goes: It's an adaptation of Lead Belly's "In the Pines" that he performed in December at the Fox Theater as part of a benefit concert for the victims of the Ghost Ship fire.
