A teenager waiting for a Muni bus was stabbed Monday afternoon, the victim of a seemingly random attack.

According to the San Francisco Police Department, the 16-year-old victim was waiting for the bus at Van Ness Avenue and Bay Street, which is at the southeastern tip of Fort Mason, at 4 p.m. Monday.

Police say that the teen was "approached from behind" by a man who asked him as a question. When the teen turned to answer, his questioner stabbed him in the back.

The suspect, who police say was in his late 20s, fled on foot. The victim was transported to San Francisco General Hospital for injuries police say are not life-threatening.

As of Tuesday morning, the stabbing suspect remains at large. According to the SFPD, no arrests have been made in this case.
