Blame it on the rain, maybe, but a power outage and subsequent equipment problem between Colma and Daly City stations is causing systemwide delays on the BART system. BART spokesperson Alicia Trost explains that an earlier PG&E power outage near Daly City, prior to 8 a.m., caused problems with BART's train routing system south of Daly City, leading to delays of 30 to 60 minutes in some cases. As of 9:20 a.m., those delays are less extreme, says Trost, but particularly for those traveling south of Daly City, some delays continue this morning.

"We lost control of some of our train control equipment that sets the routes for trains to go, so train operators had to go and manually set those routes," Trost explains. "While the routes are working now, we are still having major delays especially if you're traveling between Daly City and Colma."

But that's not all.

"Also exacerbating the systemwide delays on the Richmond line, also around 8 a.m. they were experiencing a wayside equipment problem that was also a routing problem that was unrelated to the power outage in Daly City, but crews were also having to manually set routes there," says Trost.

You probably knew that commuting during the first rain storm of the season wasn't going to be simple, but here's at least some explanation.

Update: As of 9:45 a.m. Trost says the delays are down to about 10 minutes on both lines, and service to the airport is consistent, if slightly delayed.
