A day after San Francisco's mayor called for greater safety for pedestrians and cyclists from drivers, another person traveling on foot has been injured in a collision with the driver of a vehicle.

According to a tweet from the San Francisco Fire Department, at 9:32 Friday evening crews were called to the area of 19th Avenue and Winston Drive, the location of the Stonestown Galleria shopping mall.

The SFFD characterized the incident as "AUTO V PED," which is their shorthand to indicate a collision involving a person on foot and the driver of a vehicle.

According to the San Francisco Police Department, a 43-year-old man, behind the wheel of a Lincoln Town Car, was headed southbound on 19th Avenue. That's when the victim, a 55-year-old woman, was "crossing diagonally through the intersection" to catch a Muni LRV.

The driver struck her "in the middle of the intersection of 19th and Winston," police say. She was transported to San Francisco General Hospital in critical condition, and remains there as of Tuesday morning.
