A violent and scary scene unfolded outside a bar in San Leandro Friday night/early Saturday when 34-year-old Sophy Kong of Oakland approached a group of men outside Shooter’s bar at 1500 150th Avenue in San Leandro. As KRON 4 reports, at around 2 a.m., Kong allegedly shot 43-year-old Muni driver Sukia Jackson in the head at close range, killing him, and then chased after another man, attempting to kill him.

Per the Alameda County Sheriff's Department, officers arrived on the scene after receiving a call about a shooting and found Jackson suffering from the gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.

Reports then came in of a man chasing another man nearby, and authorities discovered Kong covered in blood, holding a gun, standing over the unconscious body of another man, who was suffering from a severe beating to the head, apparently with Kong's gun. He is now in a coma. A third man was allegedly shot at but got away.

On Tuesday, Kong was charged with murder as well as two counts of attempted murder, as the East Bay Times reports, as well as the special circumstance of lying in wait for Jackson's murder.

The paper says "investigators don't have a motive for what [Alameda County Sheriff's Sgt. Ray Kelly] called a 'senseless, cowardly act of unprovoked gun violence.'" But the Examiner has it that a "dispute" outside the bar led to the violence. The Ex also spoke with coworkers of Jackson at Muni who say he was a "family man" who leaves behind three children, and SFMTA spokesperson Paul Rose said "his is a tragic loss of life and we offer our heartfelt condolences to Mr. Jackson’s family and friends."
