Thanks to loads of publicity and one daring dash across the Bay Bridge toward the city he now calls home, Ponch the Chihuahua has had plenty of interest from potential adoptive parents at SF Animal Care and Control. They've determined he's four years old, and say he's a "nervous" dog who (clearly) "loves to run," and after selecting three finalists, one family was selected as the best suited to give Ponch a forever home, as KRON 4 tells us.

Ponch was spotted trotting along one side of the top deck of the Bay Bridge the morning of April 3, and CHP officers had to stop traffic and tail him for a bit as he took of at a full sprint toward San Francisco, having the entire bridge deck to himself. No owner ever came forward to claim despite plenty of news coverage — and he had a skull pendant around his neck suggesting he had not been a stray, as of that morning.

Now after a couple of weeks of vetting potential suitors, Ponch's new guardians will be arriving to take him home at 1 p.m Thursday. As ABC 7 notes, they want to remain anonymous, so there won't be any photo ops.

Below, an adorable video clip posted by SFACC yesterday of Ponch trying to capture the attention of another dog, desperately, and failing at it. And it should be noted that Ponch is now the mascot of their entire Twitter account.
