After more than a decade's presence in San Francisco, NBC Bay Area reports that the Nike Women's Half Marathon is seeking a new host city. The race will not return next October as it traditionally does, leaving many disappointed.

"I feel really bad because it's something I enjoy doing and it gave me the opportunity to run," said one participant.

The Chronicle observes that the event attracted crowds of more than 20,000 with most gathered around Union Square. The city was informed “about a month ago they are not coming because they are pursuing alternative locations,” said Rec & Parks spokesperson Sarah Madland.

The reason for the departure is unclear, and Nike hasn't said where it plans to hold the race next year. It will mean a dent in tourism as it seems a lot of the runners come from elsewhere to participate, staying overnight in Union Square hotels.

At least participants from years past have keepsakes — Tiffany & Co. finisher's necklaces — to recall the fun.
