CABLE CAR RACE: From the twisted minds that brought you the Beer Mile — the group incidentally called A Runner's Mind — comes a footrace against a speeding (lol) cable car. DANCE MUSIC: Tickets are still available for the Mezzanine appearance of MSTRKRFT, the "Daft Punk-loving alter ego" of Death from Above 1979’s Jesse F. Keeler and producer Al-P. The Toronto-based outfit has even scored guest appearances from the likes of local E-40, so there's that. 444 Jessie Street, 9 p.m., $25

RIPTIDE FUNDRAISER PARTY: Every week, Class of 84 parties hard like its, well, you know. But this time, the gang and Cat Club will be holding a fundraiser for the staff of the fire-closed Riptide, which was silent auction, raffles and selling jello shots all night long. 100% of these proceeds will be going to the Riptide staff. BRASS BAND: The venue: Biscuit and Blues. The players: "San Francisco's talented North Beach Brass Band... a traditional brass band playing early jazz and golden standards and an electrified funky jazz act playing classic blues, Motown and soul tunes. EXHIBIT PRE-OPENING: It's not your typical Friday night at the de Young — although you can expect the usual offerings, like specialty cocktails at the café and open hours on the Hamon Tower observation level till 8 p.m. But this week it's the pre-opening of the textile art exhibit Royal Hawaiian Featherwork: Nā Hulu Ali‘i for museum members, not to mention live Hawaiian music and lectures for all. 50 Hagiwara Tea Garden Drive, 6 p.m., $15

SHAKESPEARE: With the first free Shakespeare in the Park production of Romeo and Juliet in SF since 1992, SF Shakes takes on a classic. "Director Rebecca J. Ennals continues her thoughtfully relevant approach to Shakespeare's plays with this beloved favorite. While the doomed lovers will always be remembered for their romantic devotion, this tale of five young lives needlessly wasted could have come straight from today's Twitter or Facebook feeds."
