Much like local musician Kelly Niland did earlier this year with the LCD Soundsystem riff "Mission I Love You, But You're Bringing Me Down," local singer Sony Holland brings us this rockabilly-ish original song, "Hasn't Been The Same Around Here." There are plenty of shots (again) of eviction protest signs in the Mission, luxury high-rises under construction, and corporate shuttle buses, and talk of "another shiny Tesla shooting down the alley." But the song has a sort of cheeriness to it, so I'll say it's more successful for that reason — there's a laughing-through-tears quality as she sings, "The only thing you can count on is change."

The song was written by Jerry Holland, and you can hear Sony performing it, and other stuff, tonight and tomorrow at the Ritz-Carlton.
