Already host to a full smattering of people with at least an afternoon (and probably way more than that) to spare, Dolores Park is basking in all its newfound glory.

The sun is shining, the temperature is a balmy 64, and after renovations that left the city millions poorer and all of us 14 months closer to death, we're ready to celebrate.

Up now is the a non-traditional silent disco dedication ceremony, hosted by Rec and Parks and HUSH. Rangers have amassed, and the eco-shamers are out in force, too. If I may lecture briefly: Use a brown bag and some subtlety.

And for whatever unforgivable reason, if you had more pressing obligations this afternoon, consider this your virtual first trip to the new park. Getting ready to leave work? Swing by with your friends and a sense of decorum! More are pouring in by the moment.

There are bathrooms. They are lovely. You're going to have to peek in for yourself, but I can speak to the fact that the urinal game is strong. These guys are gleaming clean (but of course, not for long).

Also note the all-purpose and bike polo-friendly "athletic court." First game, one enthusiast tells SFist, is tonight. As you can see, he can't wait.

Update: Things started to pick up a bit at 5:00 p.m. as the park reached a good social density. Note: If you suffer from FOMO as badly as I do, the rest of these photos are not safe for you.

Now watch this kid's neat trick. Follow the red SFStation balloon with the Sutro Tower logo and you'll see it line up with the real Sutro Tower.
