A construction worker was rushed to the hospital in critical condition after suffering a fall in the elevator shaft at SFMOMA.

On Friday morning around 10:10 a.m. the worker fell one story after the scaffolding collapsed inside an elevator shaft. According to SFGate, the unidentified man broke both of his legs and his pelvis in the fall.

Cal/OSHA investigators were at the scene on Friday afternoon. They say the injured worker was injured while constructing the scaffolding within the shaft, and fell about 20 feet from the seventh floor down to the sixth.

The company he worked for is San Leandro-based Nor-Cal Scaffolding, who was cited and fined in 2013 for an incident when another worker was injured.

"We're concerned about the employee's health and hope he recovers quickly," a Nor-Cal Scaffolding spokesman told SFGate. "The company is working with the Cal/OSHA inspectors to determine what caused the accident and led to the incident."

SFMOMA closed last June and its expansion project won't be completed until next year, when the museum is scheduled to reopen. The construction site made the news two months ago when a carpenter was let go for rescuing a raccoon from the site.
