Sunday was not the best day in Zacharias Solteronelson's life, not by a long shot.

It was 12:10 a.m. Sunday when Solteronelson, a 23-year-old Sacramento man, got into a taxi cab at First and Harrison Streets, California Highway Patrol Officer Sean Wilkenfeld says. Not content to ride in the cab to his final destination, Solteronelson instead allegedly struck the 30-year-old cab driver in the face and threatened to shoot the driver unless he handed over his cab.

Once the driver was out, Solteronelson sped across the Bay Bridge to Emeryville, Wilkenfeld says. Less than ten minutes later, Solteronelson was near the Powell Street exit off 80 when he caught the CHP's eye. Though they were as yet unaware that the cab had been jacked, Solteronelson's alleged high speeds inspired the cops to pull him over.

Instead of stopping, Solteronelson took the Powell off-ramp and tried to flip a U-turn. But, whoops, he got stuck on a curb and couldn't go anywhere, Wilkenfeld says.

The pursuing CHP officers opened the driver's-side door to the cab and tried to extract Solteronelson from the vehicle, Wilkenfeld says. But he wouldn't go quietly! Instead, he allegedly "punched, kicked and spat" at the officers, hitting one in the face.

The CHP prevailed, however, and turned Solteronelson over to the San Francisco Police Department. He was booked into SF County Jail on charges of carjacking, receiving stolen property, resisting arrest and battery on a police officer.
