After a passenger was struck and killed by a BART train just after 10 a.m. this morning, BART issued a service advisory that Civic Center station would be closed and that there would be no train service between Montgomery and 24th Street stations.

As of 11 a.m., BART started running trains on a single track trough Civic Center without stopping, with riders warned to expect 40 minute delays.

[Update] As of 1 p.m., Civic Center station had reopened, though there is still "a major delay system wide due to an earlier major medical emergency."

BART has been contending with a high number of suicides and held a press conference earlier in the week to address the issue.

If someone you know exhibits warning signs of suicide: do not leave the person alone; remove any firearms, alcohol, drugs or sharp objects that could be used in a suicide attempt; and call the U.S. National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 800-273-TALK (8255) or take the person to an emergency room or seek help from a medical or mental health professional.
