You would think that things would have been cleared up when, as Hoodline reports, at the end of last year Haight Street's red bus lane was explicitly painted with the words "MUNI ONLY." That reflected a change now 5 months old, designating the lanes for the 6 and 71 buses and speeding up the Muni commute for all.

But, as evidenced by a recent crash between a car in the red express lane and a Muni bus, and reinforced by reports and images of private shuttles in the lanes, well, that's not the case.

Yesterday, according to the Chronicle, Muni riders were jolted and two of them transported to the hospital when a vehicle in the red Muni Only lane collided with their bus. According to Paul Rose, a spokesman for the SFMTA, the car made a lane change in front of the bus and the bus struck it. The incident, involving an inbound 6-Parnasssus bus, took place near Laguna Street.

As far as commuter shuttles go, anyone who spots one in the Muni lane or otherwise disobeying traffic laws can submit their complaint or concern here.
