Photographer Dave Glass took most of these photos in 1976 and 1977, when, as part of an urban renewal project in the Western Addition, 19th century Victorians were moved across the city to new, permanent locations.

A moved house could have been "purchased form the San Francisco Redevelopment Agency for $1 plus relocation and restoration costs," Glass says. ($1? We'll take it!)

Though Glass posted these photos to his Flickr account around seven years ago, the images have gotten a bit of revived interest due to a Gizmodo post on them over the weekend, which noted that "It's surreal to see this architecture that stands out as so iconically SF being raised and towed as if the streets were actually just some kind of movie set, being prepped for filming the next unique chapter in its complex gentrification."
