A homeless man was killed early Sunday morning after a driver in a Toyota SUV headed west on Interstate 80 from the Bay Bridge ran off the Fifth Street off-ramp, striking the victim as he slept on an embankment.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the suspect was allegedly driving under the influence at the time. He has been identified as 27-year-old Jaime Juarez. The unidentified male victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect, meanwhile, was taken to San Francisco General Hospital with minor injuries. After a stop at the hospital he was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI and vehicular manslaughter and booked into San Francisco County Jail.

Update: The victim has been identified as 62-year-old Wilbert Williams.
