If you don't have dinner plans tonight, maybe you'd like to be waited on by a cop?

Tonight's the annual(ish) "Tip a Cop" fundraiser, in which, says SFPD's Ray Padmore, "Officers will be exchanging their citation books for meal order pads, and instead of giving orders, they’ll be taking them."

This year's event will be held from 5-9 PM at Morton's (400 Post Street near Powell), the restaurant that got Michael Bauer about as close to a Pete Wells/Guy Fieri moment as he's ever going to get.

But tonight's event isn't so much about fine dining, as the tips patrons give their waiter/officer of the law will go to the Special Olympics of Northern California, specifically to "help provide year-round sports training and competition to children and adults with developmental disabilities at no cost to their families," Padmore says.

This is also your big chance to meet SFist's go-to SFPD spokesperson, Officer Albie Esparza, who says he "will be there serving up dinner! Come out support a great cause and have a great dinner!"
