Popular, whimsical, Mexi-fusion spot Loló closed the doors on their existing 22nd Street space after service Saturday night and they're set to reopen this Monday, February 3, in a new, bigger space at 974 Valencia Street (the former Lot 7, between 21st and Liberty).

The menu remains mostly the same, with executive chef and owner Jorge Martínez's take on Jaliscan-California cuisine. But favorite dishes like the crab tostadas, oxtail empanadas, and fried Brussels sprouts are now joined by a few new things, like oyster and pork chin confit sopes, black mussels and calamari escabeche, and Dungeness crab croquetas.

Also, they have a new, mezcal-driven cocktail program designed by bar managers David Gallardo and Leon Vasquez. A couple example cocktails: the El Benito, with mezcal, lemon verbena, Avezé gentian liqueur, yellow Chartreuse, and bitters; and the Gold Digger, with mezcal, yellow Chartreuse, tonic syrup, and grapefruit bitters.

Martínez's wife Lorena Zertuche, for whom the restaurant's named (her nickname is Lolo), is also an artist and took care of the playful design. "I was inspired by both my childhood and the heart of the Mission District," she says. "As our city continues to evolve, it runs the risk of losing some of its history and culture. I wanted to capture and preserve the artistic spirit of the neighborhood — in my own way — and create an environment that embraces our heritage, ingenuity and history built around food and community."

The relocated restaurant and bar will be open Monday to Thursday 6:00pm to 12:00am, and Friday-Saturday from 6:00pm to 1:00am. They're hoping to start lunch and brunch service in March.
