23-year-old Christopher Atkins was arrested last weekend after he pulled up in front of a San Jose nightclub, threw his car into reverse and plowed into a crowd of bystanders milling about after last call. Atkins injured three people in the incident, causing the crowd to turn angry.

San Jose Police entertainment officers who patrol the nightclubs in the area stopped the vehicle after responding to a disturbance call on Third Street near Santa Clara Street. The crowd of post-clubbing partiers first gathered around Atkins' car before turning on the police officers. The cops called for some emergency crowd control and eventually subdued the mob.

The three victims of Atkins' late night road rage were taken to a nearby hospital to be treated, but their injures were considered moderate and not life threatening. Atkins, meanwhile, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon (the weapon being his car) and booked into the Santa Clara County Main jail only to be later released. The local District Attorney had not filed charges as of Thursday.
