Early yesterday morning around 7:30 a.m., a 28-year-old homeless woman sleeping in a tent on 13th Street near Mission Street woke up to the sound of someone calling her name. When she went to see who was outside her shelter, she was attacked by a 27-year-old woman with a knife.

According to the Examiner, the victim and her husband were able to chase down the suspect and detain the woman until they could get to a shelter to call police. Both women reportedly sustained some stab wounds in the scuffle: the victim was cut in the neck, back and face, while the apparent aggressor suffered an eye injury. The attacker was arrested for assault, but both women had to be taken to San Francisco General to be treated for their injuries and are expected to survive.
