Today marks the ninth (9th!) Spare the Air day in a row for the Bay Area. It was already a record when we hit day five last week, but for more than a week now, we've all been living under strict martial law where burning wood and other materials for warmth (or even just seasonal coziness) is strictly forbidden.

According to Bay Area Air Quality Management District executive officer, and mastermind of our new fireless dystopian future Jack Broadbent, the BAAQMD appreciates the cooperation of all citizens during this recent dry spell and cold snap.

For anyone thinking about lighting up a yule log while catching up on Homeland this evening, you should know that first-time violators are subject to a $100 fine or an afternoon imprisonment in a wood smoke awareness gulag. And remember the BAAQMD's special police are watching.
