This morning crews on the set of Big Eyes, a forthcoming film from director Tim Burton, transformed Grant Avenue into a scene right out of 1950s San Francisco.
The film, tentatively set to be released in August 2014, focuses on the true story of painter Walter Keane, who worked in San Francisco during the '50s and '60s. Keane and his wife Margaret Keane were known for their kitschy paintings of doe-eyed children that were mass produced and sold on the cheap. The film reportedly follows Walter and Margaret's messy divorce during which Margaret accused her husband of taking credit for the paintings she made by signing his name on her work. Walter tried to write her off by calling her crazy, but the story leads to a dramatic courtroom painting duel.
If that doesn't get you excited about the film: know that two-time Oscar winner Christoph Waltz will play Walter and Amy Adams is playing Margaret — so keep your eyes peeled for those two around Park Tavern.
The casting call for background extras called for "Men and women in their 20s to early 40s. Beatniks, artists, bohemian types" with a "specific" look for period costumes and willingness to get a slick 50s hairdo.
