You'll recall that the AC Transit workers's union authorized a strike back in late June, at the same time BART workers did, and now, not wanting to feel left out of the strike drama, they've set a strike date of Wednesday.

The announcement comes less than a day after a BART strike was averted by way of an intervention by the governor, and the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 192 says they plan to go on strike at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday if they can't reach a contract deal.

Local 192 represents 1,800 drivers, mechanics, and dispatchers for Alameda County's transit service, which is responsible for carrying some 175,000 East Bay passengers every weekday.

At issue in this negotiation, apparently, is the hiring of part time workers, and health and safety issues.
