Jarring news out of Berkeley this weekend. A cyclist attempting to cross I-80 early Saturday morning was struck and killed by a passing vehicle. The accident happened at around 4:30 am.

"The CHP said that the bicyclist was struck while trying to cross the freeway to the center divider near University Avenue around 4:30 a.m. Saturday," reports KTVU. " The bicyclist was located by cops further down the road, his bike smashed to pieces, after being struck by a pickup truck.

According to Bay City News, the bicyclist has been identified as a 24-year-old resident of Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts. The driver of the truck, who walked away unscathed, cooperated with authorities.
