18-year-old Karl Mitchell of Pittsburg, CA died Thursday afternoon after arriving at San Francisco General suffering from a gunshot wound. Mitchell was driven to the hospital by friends and there was no 911 call for the shooting which happened in broad daylight around 3 p.m. at Wilde Avenue and Girard Street in Visitacion Valley.

According to SFPD officer Albie Esparza, Mitchell was driven to the hospital by friends, where he was pronounced dead. Police only learned about the shooting, which occurred right outside of an SFFD fire station, after the victim arrived at the hospital and later returned to the crime scene where they found evidence of a shooting.

The killing marks the city's 15th homicide this year.
