A marine unit of the San Francisco Police spotted a body floating in the water near pier 48 and and AT&T Park's McCovey Cove around 10:40 a.m. this morning. The floating corpse appears to have "been in the water for a while," according to SFPD spokesman Albie Esparza.

No other details about the body's gender or identity have been released at this point, pending an examination by the medical examiner to determine whether the death was a suicide or if there was any foul play.

Pier 48, the neighboring pier 50 and the surrounding lots are all slated to be rebuilt as part of the San Francisco Giant's Mission Rock development, which includes a lot of swanky apartments, retail and one really big Anchor Brewing outlet.
