President Barack Obama will make an appearance at the Fox Theater today — located in the heart of Oaksterdam, the East Bay's cannabis community — for a fundraiser. While the president shills for dollars for reelection come November, scores of medical marijuana advocates will bring to light Obama's continued attacks against (legal!) state and local medical marijuana providers.

A peaceful noon protest has been planned at Oakland City Hall as well as a press conference at Oaksterdam University at 1:45 pm. These actions will coincide with similar events in Oregon, Washington, and Colorado. In honor of the POTUS's appearance, many businesses in the Fox Theater neighborhood have displayed green flags in their windows as a show of solidarity with local medical cannabis collectives targeted by the federal government.

If you recall, Oaksterdam University, a cannabis industry trade school, was shutdown by the feds in April. And just last week, Oakland's Harborside Health Center, the nation's largest medical cannabis dispensary, was threatened with closure by deplorable U.S. Attorney Melinda Haag.

The president is scheduled to appear at 4:30 pm. Tickets at the Fox were anywhere between $100 and $7,500. Prior to the public event, Obama will make a pitstop at a private Piedmont party fundraiser. That bash ran guests $38,500 per ticket. This past Sunday, Obama traveled to Aurora, Colo. to meet with victims of Friday's massacre at a movie theater there that left 12 dead and dozens injured.
