In the wake of the tragedy at a midnight screening of "The Dark Knight Rises" Aurora, Colorado, San Francisco Police announced the department will be focusing on movie theaters screening the Summer blockbuster today. As SFPD spokesman Officer Albie Esparza explained this afternoon: "Even though the Colorado shooting appears to be an isolated incident, we will take the extra measures to ensure we don't have a copycat incident over here."

Police are also encouraging moviegoers and theater employees to keep an extra vigilant eye out for any suspicious behavior this weekend.

In a statement, Mayor Lee sent the city's condolences to Colorado, saying: "As America woke up to the unspeakable tragedy this morning in Aurora, our first thoughts are with the families and friends of those who lost their lives in the shooting... I express my personal condolences to those impacted by today's events. San Francisco grieves with Aurora today."

State Senator Leland Yee, meanwhile, took the opportunity to push for more gun control. Yee is currently working on a bill to limit semi-automatic weapons such as AR-15s and AK-47s.
