Unfortunately, there are still a lot of shootings in Oakland. This past warm weekend saw a spate of seven separate incidents in different parts of East Oakland that left one 26-year-old Alameda resident dead, and seven other people wounded.

The fatal incident occurred just before 11 p.m. on Sunday, across the street from Garfield Elementary School on Foothill Boulevard in Oakland. The 26-year-old was at a house party and was shot and died at the scene. His name has not been released. This was Oakland's 50th murder of the year, bringing the total right in line with this time last year. (In S.F. we are now up to 29, following Friday's shooting in the Mission.)

The other six incidents happened in a twelve-hour span between 1:15 p.m. Sunday and 1:15 a.m. Monday.

Warm weather brings out the guns. Sad.
