The Financial District's noted restaurant of glitz and glamour, Quince, just concocted several new cocktails to coincide with Oscar season. (Pst, the Academy Awards fall on Sunday, February 26th.) Most of the drinks sound irresistible like the Chinatown Collins (a gin and lime brew) or the Casablanca Cobbler (with quince-infused cognac, lemon, Meyer lemon tincture and sparkling wine). Yet a couple brews, based off of Two Women and Papillon, are unusual cinema choices for festive cocktails. (The former film is about a mother and daughter's brutal gang-rape by Moroccan soldiers; the latter involves Dustin Hoffman famously shoving something up his butt.)

We tip our hat to Quince for dippings its toes in controversial waters.

Menu:

- Tita's Sangaree: "As Tita expressed herself through her cooking in “Like Water for Chocolate,” Harrison does so with our version of a traditional Sangaree, with Tequila Reposado, lime, Punt e Mes, Lambrusco and rosemary meringue."

- Casablanca Cobbler: "To honor the revelers who celebrated drinking throughout this iconic film, with quince-infused cognac, lemon, Meyer lemon tincture and sparkling wine."

- Vesper: "This stylish Martini first appeared in “Casino Royale,” coined by James Bond in honor of his love interest Vesper Lynd, with London dry gin, Swan’s Neck vodka and lillet blanc."

- Chinatown Collins: "No need for crisp linens and pearls as Faye Dunaway did to sip on our version of this classic drink with London dry gin, lime, Luxardo maraschino and antique seltzer."

- Devil's Island Daiquiri: "Inspired by the 1973 film “Papillon,” this is the perfect potion to help Dega and Charrière mount another escape, with Barbancourt 8-year-old rum, lime, ginger-cinnamon honey potion and Tiki bitters."

- La Ciociara: "An homage to Sophia Loren for her Oscar-winning portrayal of Cesira in this film, better known as “Two Women,” with Russell’s Reserve Rye, Marie Duffau Armagnac, Amaro Meletti and chocolate bitters."

- Mrs. Robinson’s Cocktail: "The perfect ammunition for any seducer, with Scotch, Barolo Cinato, Punt e Mes, 82’ P/X, orange and Peychaud’s Bitters."

Each cocktail will run you $12, so sip carefully. Quince Bar and Lounge (470 Pacific Avenue) hours are from 5 p.m. - 10 p.m., Monday - Saturday.
