SFPD Releases 'It Gets Better' Film

"I'm sure there's a Shit Someone Says video out there you haven't seen yet, but why not skip it and watch this surprisingly moving It Gets Better video from the SFPD," notes SF Appeal's Eve Batey, who first reported on the video. And she's right. The video, just released today by the San Francisco Police Department, showcases several queer officers telling their stories of growing up as gay youths. It's quite touching.

Also among the fray? SFPP Chief Greg Surh, who says, "I was a smallish young man...and I'd get bullied all the time...and I really, really appreciated it when people stuck up for me. I can't even imagine what it's like growing up as an LGBT youth today...no one deserves to be taunted or bullied."

Watch it now. And then show it to your kids, your cousins, you or friends who have kids, or whatnot. Please. Thank you.

I've seen a number of the It Gets Better videos and this one resonated with me so much because of your openness, your vulnerability, your relatability, honesty and how very beautifully you express yourselves. What a wonderful gift you've given; you should all be so proud. This WILL save lives. Bravo to all of you.

Wow, that was really very, very good.  I would love to hug all of those SFPD (and SFFD) officers and tell them how wonderful I think they are for sharing their experiences.  (I won't hug them though, because that would be weird!)   I hope that the kids in need see this and see it often:  it gets SO much better!

  • whoa, i was an LAPD officer and cannot imagine that force producing this amazingly supportive effort.  on behalf of my victimized bisexual teenaged son, thank you SFPD.
