A dead man was found this morning in a ravine in the unincorporated Alameda County territory known as Cherryland, underneath some elevated BART tracks near Hayward. A neighborhood woman has surmised it may be a homeless man.

The area is known to be pretty quiet and crime-free, but the woman tells the Tribune that an umbrella, sleeping bag, and some trash were recently seen in the area of the overpass where the body was found. The body was reported around 7 a.m. this morning.

Police have not yet said whether they believe foul play was involved, and they have not yet identified the body.

Update: in an update from Bay City News, we learn that the Alameda County Sheriff's department is now considering this one a homicide. The body has yet to be identified and it's still unclear whether the man died at the scene or was dumped there.
