Couple's Rad 'Star Wars' Engagement Photo Shoot

In related Star Wars news, photographer Michael James recently took part in an engagement photo shoot, one that breathes new life and (ahem) force into a stale tradition. Specifically, these pre-wedding photos of a Bay Area couple who really, really like Star Wars. Featuring a pair sporting Sith and Obi-Wan Kenobi garb, James shot these two in various Lucasian action positions in parts of the forest near the UC Santa Cruz campus in the Santa Cruz Mountains.

SFist asked James to tell us more about the photo shoot. "The theme was actually the couple's idea," James explained, adding, "The bride, in particular. She really wanted it to be about them, and something they enjoy, and she wanted it to be fun. I'm just glad they let me be the one to photograph such a cool and unique event, not just the Star Wars theme, but their engagement, a once in a lifetime thing."

When asked to describe the sci-fi-loving duo, James said, "They are both truly creative people, and madly in love."

You think you are much cooler than this couple ... but you really aren't. You know that right?
  • As a photographer who has done some engagement photos and such, I would love to find clients like this who want to do something different.
  • SFNY
I really hope they checked each other for ticks after that lying-in-the-field shot.   Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, anaplasmosis, ehrlichiosis and babesiosis are terrible wedding gifts.
  • clearly we have different interpretations of the word "rad"
  • that Jedi needs to cut back on the organic/free range/grass fed Tauntaun burgers
  • This concept is so cool! Some people just can't stand that these couple were able to think and do this first. Hahaha...I love It!
  • An attractive nerd falling in love with another nerd?  This isn't a good message to send to nerds.  Stalker Wars: Episode IV-A False Hope.
  • A) Stuff White People Like.

    B) As someone who still RPGs a couple times a week using rules mashed up from Rolemaster and Aftermath, I'm telling you kids that you are going too far. Too. Far.

    C) The Prequels!?!?! You guys suck.

Now here are some folks we can all get behind the macing of?
  • It's very rude to show me pictures of this woman in the context of her announcing her engagment to somebody else.
  • Ew, they're going with the NEW trilogy?  Might as well ask Jar Jar Binks to do the service.

"Mi-sa want you to be vewy happy couple, ha ha ha!"

Just wait a few years for all the Harry Potter and Twilight fans to get old enough to have weddings.  You'll look back and have fond memories of this crapfest compared to what they'll do

Have you actually been to a Twilight movie? Plenty of marriage aged people there, my friend.
  • crusher153
you mean the socially awkward large sweaty women that sit in the back fantasizing that this is their life? who else would be there on their own above the age of 17?
  • Militant Conformist
Are you refering to the twilight moms, the parents stuck taking their kids, or the male members of the Robert Pattinson fanclub?
  • I'm not usually one to dissuade nerdish tendencies but liking Star Wars no longer makes you a beautiful & unique snowflake. It's generally accepted to be a terribly written, terribly acted and terribly directed film franchise with some of the most blatant merchandise-whoring I've seen aside from Krusty the Klown (though if they do come up with a Star Wars-themed pregnancy test, I think that might be kind of awesome - If your "lightsaber" has a "plus" sign, that means you'd better get your midichlorian levels checked!")

You kids get off my lawn! I liked Star Wars before it was popular!

Lame.  A real fiancée would wear the slave Leia costume instead.

I like the one of him about to light saber her head off. I think these two kids will defy the odds and make it - a new hope.

If she doesn't give him an ewok baby, I bet he leaves her.
  • crusher153
that leaves me to wonder what these star wars geeks will name their kids. my guess is chewey or jobba

    HELLO OLD PERSON
  • So they're going to have...sex? Because I'm guessing she's his last hope after seeing these photos.
  • Matty J.
They're engaged already, they're not taking photos to post to a dating site.
  • chuzzlewit
the photo shoot flagrantly scoffs at rule 34 - not looking good for these kids i'm afraid.
  • ihateloggingin
Give the marriage 3 years tops.
  • jfu222
Looks like they are having fun and enjoying themselves which leads me to believe that you are dead wrong about that prediction....as if some traditional wedding photo is more meaningful ...pffft

Who the hell is the chick with the red face? Darth Wife?
  • mappo
All I know is that she's got a Do Not Enter sign painted across her face.  Guy should take a hint and get the hell outta there.
  • crusher153
are you kidding? it looks to me as she took his virginity. after all, who else would screw a star wars geek?

    NO SWORD-PLAY IN WARD 8!

Shouldn't they have been on the same side of the force?  Both Jedi or both Sith?  This is an abomination.
  • no, this is an abomination

  • chuzzlewit
too bad you weren't there dressed up like lucius malfoy to jump out of the bushes.
  • Guest
