Although weak surf stalled the big wave surf competition at Mavericks this year, professional surfing fans will get another chance to see their heros out on local waters this week. Starting tomorrow, November 1st, the competition window opens on the Rip Curl Pro Search at Ocean Beach.

As our friends at RichmondSF report, pro surfing posterboy Kelly Slater will be in attendance, competing for his 11th world title against a bevy of the world's finest waveriders. Making things a little more interesting out at the competition where temperatures are expected to be down in the 50s, the GGNRA has banned the jet skis that usually tow surfers out to the breaks.

Assuming conditions are right, organizers will call for 8 a.m. starts at the competition site across from the Beach Chalet between stairs 18-20 at Ocean Beach. Competition days run until 4 p.m, or until conditions start to fade and the whole thing can be livestreamed from the comfort of your own cubicle.

The event comes ready with an adrenaline-pumping teaser trailer, naturally:
