They haven't started any "Hey hey, Ho ho" chants yet, but a group of protesters from the News Media Guild is staging a lunchtime protest today in front of the Associated Press offices on Second and Folsom. Without AP, you'd be surprised how sparse your favorite news sources would be each day, since everyone from the SF Chronicle to Yahoo to the New York Times relies on this venerable wire service's global coverage. Issues in contention during months of negotiating apparently are management's offer of a 1.5% pay raise, the first in several years, and cuts in retirement benefits. Your humble SFist staffers won't take sides in this dispute, but we will use this opportunity to remind management we're still waiting for that jacuzzi -- and the daily fresh fruit platters -- which would no doubt make us so much more productive.
