Lately San Francisco Public Defender Jeff Adachi has been releasing scandalous videotapes of SFPD officers behaving badly with a frequency rivaled only by Studio City pornographers. The latest release to hit local news sources shows three plainclothes cops entering an Outer Richmond apartment building to search the home of a man police have accused of committing felony sale of marijuana. Since the officers failed to properly display their badges (corroborated by the video) and then lied about that fact, a judge has dismissed the charges. Attorneys from the DA's office, who were aware of the video prior to its public release, still intend to follow up with an appeal.
In a related story, the vice squad weighs in on their perspective: it's "business as usual" out in the Richmond where Police Chief Godown said in a press conference today that Adachi seems to be screaming "the sky is falling" and is just giving the department a bad name. Today's case is the 83rd to be dismissed thanks to what KQED calls "AdachiVision", which is a pretty distressing number of cases, if you ask us.
Anyway, we're still waiting to see what the Feds intend to do with all this info after Gascón's office handed over the investigation earlier this month.
