Bloomberg reported yesterday that Microsoft won't be cranking out any new versions of their somewhat popular Zune media player, which means the boys in Redmond didn't quite reach their goal of breaking Cupertino's stranglehold on earbuds of America.

Anyhow, Microsoft fanboys might find some solace in Engadget's report that Microsoft is wary to completely retire the Zune as they move towards making smartphones that people actually want to use. So that means "Zune" will probably live on as the place where you have to go to download movies to your Xbox or something.
