Matt Gonzalez, former Board of Supervisors president, was appointed to Chief Attorney of the San Francisco Public Defender's office today. Gonzalez's position is effective immediately.

"We wanted a top trial lawyer who understands our work, has a commitment to our clients and a dedication to preserving the resources that allow our office to function," Adachi said. "That person is Matt Gonzalez."

Gonzales, a Texas native, received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Columbia University in 1987 and his JD from Stanford Law School in 1990. He made national headlines when he ran as Ralph Nader's running mate in the 2008 election.
