According to the Examiner and NBC Bay Area, local whale watching tours have spotted Orcas in the area. Noting how unusual it is to see schools of killer whales this far South, tour operators are naturally excited about it. The Ex worries they may be hunting down local gray whale pups, but SFist pal Matt Baume points out, they could be looking for salmon around the Sacramento river as well.
On the other hand, if we remember one of our favorite National Geographic wildlife specials correctly, the giant dolphins love coming on shore to snatch up seals and toss them in the air. [Warning: video not safe for vegans and seal trainers.] And we do have a healthy seal population in the area.
Anyhow, whale watching tours will surely be filling up quickly, so book fast. It definitely beats the depression-inducing Discovery Kingdom.
