As the Bay Citizen reports, local Jewish organizations like Oakland’s Jewish Voice for Peace, have drawn scrutiny both locally and worldwide for expressing hope that Egypt's push for democracy could shift Middle Eastern politics---including ending Israel's occupation of Palestine. Not surprisingly, this has caused outrage amongst many other Jewish organizations, both locally and internationally.

The Bay Area is known as a hot spot for Jewish opposition to Israel's government Palestinian relations, or as the Israeli research organization Reut Institute put it, "one of the very few geographic locations that drive a global assault on Israel's right to exist."
