As we mentioned last week, the SFMTA plans to hand out more tickets this year in order to make up a huge budget shortfall. While the harsh reality of urban car ownership dictates that you will eventually get a ticket or two no matter what, MTA deputy director Joy Houlihan detailed her agencies' plan of attack yesterday so we can at least put together a handy guide of maneuvers likely to net you a fine. From the Chronicle's list of enforcement changes:

  • Residential parking permits, yellow zone and time-limit violations - just keep an eye on the signs, OK?
  • "Block-the-box" violations - We have zero sympathy for you folks who thinks it's OK to pull in to the middle of the intersection right before the light changes and then look around all bemused when cross traffic starts honking at you.
