Bay to Breakers Public Transit Changes
This Sunday's Bay to Breakers, which anticipates some 60K runners this year, will prompt extra public transit service on Sunday. BART will open two hours early and run extra long trains for the annual wacky race (as well as running longer trains for folks going to the Giants starting at 1:05 p.m.)
BART asks runners to "do their pre-race carbo-loading before arriving at the stations (i.e., no boozing it up) because there is no eating or drinking in the stations or on the trains.
Muni service will also start special event service from 5:45 a..m to 8 a.m. Behold:
- The 5-Fulton express bus will depart from Fulton Street and 47th Avenue, making local stops on Masonic Avenue, then travel express to 1st and Mission streets.
- The N-Judah express bus will depart from Judah Street and La Playa, make a final local stop on Masonic Avenue, then travel express to 1st and Mission streets.
- The N-Judah Muni Metro streetcar will run from Judah Street and 19th Avenue to Embarcadero Station
- Muni Metro service will run from West Portal to Embarcadero Station.
- Civic Center, Powell and Montgomery stations will not be served by any Muni Metro special service and will open at 9 a.m. as usual.
Muni also has a request for runners: "Be sure to purchase your Muni fare in advance to speed up boarding and avoid lines. Special event fares are $7 for Adults.This fare is valid on all express and local service until 5 p.m. "
Caltrain will also start service at 5:45 a.m.
