The City is in negotiations with the landlord at 72 6th Street to create what could become a new mid-market station for the SFPD called the Sixth Street Substation.

As the Examiner reports, a 23-officer unit already exists for the area, started in 2008, and cops say the unit has been "more successful than we first imagined." They average, on a weekly basis, 21 felony and 12 misdemeanor arrests, about 50% of which are drug related.

For the new substation, which would cost the city $2,900/mo, the Redevelopment Agency has pledged a forgivable loan to the landlord for building improvements.
