On Friday, Mayor Newsom announced that the TransAmerica Pyramid had achieved LEED Gold certification for being one of the greenest buildings in the nation, thereby boosting San Francisco ahead of Los Angeles or New York as home to the greatest number of green buildings.

As Inhabitat gushes, large-scale retrofits in the TransAmerica building and elsewhere, in addition to stringent guidelines for new construction, have increased the amount of LEED-certified square footage in SF five-fold in the past year.
