Gavin Cans Film Commission Head Stephanie Coyote

stephanie-peter-coyote.jpg Head of the SF Film Commission Stephanie Coyote -- who makes $132,000 a year to lure film companies to shoot their movies in our fair city -- got wacked fired yesterday. While Gavin may cite the fact that Coyote wasn't doing her job as well as she could, we (and Matier & Ross) suspect there was a little more to the surprise firing. Coyote is the wife of actor Peter Coyote, who came out vocally in support of Jerry Brown for governor, so we kind of feel like this is evidence of Gavin cleaning house and removing the faces of all who remind him of his failed gubernatorial bid.

What's the point in cleaning house when he's only got 2 more years left and can't run again?

I love Peter Coyote’s voice.

He’s up there in the Leonard Nimoy stratosphere of great voice-over talent.

OK call me sexist, or maybe not, but can we PLEASE have some commission heads who are not "wife of" some important muckety muck? Like maybe people who know what they are doing in their own right?

To be fair, Stefanie had the job for 11 years, so she had to have had *some* ability. And her husband's H-wood connections were probably an asset to her position.

$132,000 ? really??
nice racket

Why not pay this position a percentage of the revenue they actually bring in vs a flat (and rather bloated) salary. Particularly to someone who is probably already quite wealthy.

Yeah - nice racket is right. How much do the higher up in MUNI make for helping City Hall raid their fund? Pay the execs and reduce service while making what is left unbearable.

i think gavin is moving toward just letting the internet do his job. after my comment a couple weeks ago about 7th Ave/Laguna Honda being a pothole nightmare, lo and behold it is now being resurfaced!

perhaps in a similar way he's just going to have san francisco get a linkedin page and garner film gigs that way.

Ten bucks says he'll appoint Jen Siebel to take her place.

That would be hilarious. In this town its a distinct possibility.

i'll beat Gavin's sorry ass up and down Market Street from one end to the other if he even thinks about it.

Okay, $132,000 for this job sounds absolutely ludicrous ... Planning Commissioners make, what, NOTHING .... and yet we pay $132,000 a year for this role? How about $70,000 a year ... that's above the area median for a single person (I think) ... wouldn't $70,000 a year get us a person who can do the job well too?

I'll let other folks judge the Mayor's call ... I'm more perplexed by the number of jobs and types of jobs that we're paying somewhere close to TWICE the city/county median income to someone to perform .. WTF????

And yet that's not the top paid position at City Hall -- by far.

Something tells me if they had a salary cap ($70k seems fine to me) this "budget crisis" would be gone in an instant.

One down, hundreds of underperforming and overpaid city workers with nearly no oversight to go...

we weren't getting like , a bazillion movies made here, but we WERE getting a LOT of commercials made here, and those pay well!

gavin is just being a petty nincompoop. the fact he held a press conference bragging about the Muni cuts/fare increase is another sign the guy is nuttier than a candy bar.

What an incredible asshole. I thought Coyote was doing quite a good job.

That said, $132K whaaaah?
