uh...they're the police, it's what they were hired to do and usually what most of them signed up for in the first place. Training, badge, gun, fight crime etc...
It's like announcing that coffee shop employees will now make your coffee, taxi drivers will now drive cabs and restaurant peeps will now wait on you. If anything, this is a morale boost to the guys and gals who signed up and want to "serve and protect."
I like the new Chief so far. He appears to be an actual professional cop who takes his job seriously, much unlike his predecessor/political appointee/quota filler.
And thank baby jeebus that Newsom is busy throwing his turds at the wall to get in the way of a good cop doing good things for the people of San Francisco.
It's about time.

Does Supervisor Dufty take MUNI? He drives to work which is not necessarily a bad thing, but he lives only a few blocks from wCity Hall which seems really ridiculous. This is political grandstanding for votes by a supervisor who has little to know experience with what regular MUNI riders have to deal with everyday. Shouldn't supervisors who influence MUNI policy actually ride MUNI?
