Legendary McRib Returns to San Francisco?

mcrib.jpg Uh oh. Both Eater LA and the LA Times are reporting that an outbreak of McDonald's elusive McRib sandwich has ensued in the greater Southland. This naturally begs the question, when will the McRib spread to the Bay Area? According to the McRib Locator, the McRib has already been spotted in one of San Francisco's many McDo franchises. Could this be true?

For those unawares, the McRib is a delectable conglomeration of pork gristle and artificial herbs and spices that have been pressed into a rib cage shaped patty, doused in corn syrup enriched barbecue sauce, and served on a perpetually fresh six inch roll with onions and pickles. They are gorgeous. Keep in mind that this is high praise for this writer, a 372nd generation San Franciscan whose artisan food rich diet is so purely organic and sustainable that he craps nothing but sunshine, lollipops, and rainbows. We can't even remember the last time our shadow darkened the threshold of our local McDonalds. Fortunately, for reasons unknown, McDonald's rarely chooses to unleash the McRib. This is a good thing, as too much McRib = too much Chris.

So, your assignment, should you choose to accept it, is to spread out across this great city of ours and investigate the many McDonald's stores still allowed to stand within our borders. Has the McRib truly returned to San Francisco? Inquiring minds must know...

mmmmmmmmmmm! McRib! Keep it away from me!

user-pic

The Ribwich is similar, when they have them at Krusty Burger

Didn't the animal they made it from go extinct?

"Mmm, I don't mind the taste!"

There is no Micky Ds at Shields & Beverly in SF. That is the one location listed on the McRib Locator. Whoever taged this may have meant Stonestown or Ocean. Ocean most likely, that place had the McRib the longest last time.

Mmmmm, the McRib is the classic "it is so bad that it is good" sandwich. I haven't tasted one in years but used to love them.

Get one quick, before Ross Mirkarimi writes legislation to ban it.

I can't tell the difference between these ribby samiches and those fake meat rib things from safeway, is that a bad sign?

Are there still any McDonalds in SF? I remember seeing on on Van Ness a long time ago. Is it still there?

You need to get out more, RobinSF! There are several in the Financial District. The aforementioned Van Ness and Golden Gate. One down in the Wharf somewhere. 24th and Mission. Haight and Stanyan. Really, you never go by any of those places? Do you live in SF?

There's one at 3rd and Townsend occupying the lot that used to be the diner featured in the "Go Ahead, Make My Day" scene from Sudden Impact. It didn't look very much like they dressed it up for the movie, but they did have a Sudden Impact poster on the wall. Now it's just a carbon copy of millions of other McDs that could be anywhere USA.

After a while you block out certain things in this city; the smell of urine, bums everywhere, the trannies on Polk, etc...

The meat is irrelevant, it only exists as a delivery system for the sauce+onions.

It makes me happy knowing what i'll be having for lunch at 9:30 in the am. And god help me: its McRib.

So excited! I've never had one of these mythical sandwiches, but I feel I may never be complete without one.

I'll wait until I hear a reliable report before I get excited. I don't know if I trust this "Hamburglar" character posting on the Google map. I hear he's a convicted felon.

It's pretty dangerous to eat processed fast food if you haven't had it for a while (I will spare you the details of my trip down the KFC memory lane last month) Naturally, I'm assuming that the same thing will happen with the McRib (satiating nostalgia with an entire bottle of pepto).
It'd probably be much safer to go for a bbq pork sandwich at golden gate golf course - http://ironwoodbbq.com/menu/

Worth any ill effects, as long as they take place after McRib consumption.

I think this is a cruel hoax! some other McDonalds corporate employee on another site said he didn't think they would run McRib while running the Angus promotion.

sigh.
