Feinstein : Will She Or Won't She?

Now that Gavin Newsom has dropped out of the governor's race (welcome back to work, Gavin!), rumors are swirling that Senator Dianne Feinstein might take a stab as the new "it" Democratic candidate. Or not. Who's to say for sure. This speculation pops up all the time with DiFi.

While AP reports that "polls indicate she would be a heavy favorite if she chooses to run," odds are she won't go up against friend and colleague Jerry Brown, whose wedding she officiated in 2005.

Most likely, as Robert Cruickshank of Calitics muses, DiFi will endorse Brown. Cruickshank goes on to point out that "Feinstein also will likely be loath to give up her Senate seniority, which is likely to become even more important in the coming years ... a loss of Democratic seats in the Senate would make DiFi even more powerful and important than she is now, as she's seen as a bipartisan dealmaker."

Feinstein, if you recall, made an unsuccessful bid for governor way back in 1990, losing to Pete Wilson.

so wait. if john mccain was a doddering old man in 2008 and dianne feinstein is three years older than mccain, what does that make her in 2010?

darn this new math!

Not a cancer-ridden oldster with serious health problems relating to his brave service to country in Vietnam like McCain. Also, not prone to selecting a lieutenant governor like our favorite governor, who also likes the word also.

Candidates for governor don't choose running mates. The two offices are elected separately.

"cancer-ridden oldster."

sweet level of debate.

Sweet loss of context and lack of sense of humor.

right. because as you so deftly (and hilariously!) prove, engineers have the keenest senses of humor.

.....sigh....jesus f'n christ, REALLY?!?!?! Jerry Brown-eye or Dianne Frankenstien? I'm writing in Carrie Prejean. At least she isn't afraid to fingerbang herself publicly while thinking about opposite marriage.

does she support same sex marriage? I can't remember what her position is...

...oh it depends on the direction the wind is blowing.

In 2004 - 13 states amended their constitutions to exclude LGBT people and John Kerry/John Edwards (who was about to start fucking someone other than his cancer striken wife) sat on the sidelines without any criticism of the proposed amendments - Dianne Frankenstein blamed gay people for the defeat of Kerry/Edwards saying that it was "too much too fast too soon" for gay marriage.

Missing the point completely, but not missing an opportunity to kick a fag when it could earn political points.

Then suddenly in 2008 with Prop 8 on the ballot, she agrees to appear in an advertisement encouraging Californians to vote No on 8.

She supports whatever position will help her the most and like other Democrats (except oddly enough Gavin Newsom) won't take the risk of being an advocate for her constituents.

Why, oh why, can the Democrats produce one formidable, oh-so-slightly progressive candidate to run for governor? DiFi and Jerry Brown are both entrenched political hacks.

Because no sane person wants to be Governor of California. Until the CA Constitution gets overhauled, it's a hopeless job.

Oh fuck no. She already got a public elementary school named after her in San Francisco. Isn't that enough damage already?
