Meredith Brody, SF Weekly Part Ways

sf_weekly_logo.jpg

A "polarizing" figure in the SF food community, Meredith Brody was a memorable one during her tenure at SF Weekly. Yesterday, Eater tell us, Brody parted ways with SF Weekly.

Brody's writing was a mixture of food critique and personal life stories. And, on a personal note, while your editor was making pennies at 185 Berry back in the day, Brody was the first employee to extend her hand to us, whisk us over to a (free!) lunch at a fabulous French bistro in Pac Heights, and dish on the people and workplace at SF Weekly. (And, really, the best kind of employee is the one who will tell you what's what in any given workplace, while making your feel right at home. Right? Right.)

Eater goes on to report that "Village Voice Media will soon launch a nationwide search for a new restaurant critic, with the job ad expected to hit in the next few days."

Her "reviews" were a large part of the reason I quit reading the SF Weekly and started using it to start fires.

Of course, that doesn't affect their circulation numbers (consider that, SF Weekly advertisers.)

Sad news, for Meredith, her fans, and for whoever replaces her at that accursed sinking ship.

I'm a Brody fangirl and this news broke my heart.

Why don't they just reprint the Village Voice reviews like they do with their movies and most of their arts "coverage"? Or they could just pass on snarky comments about SF food from NYC chefs over and over.

Looks like their "nationwide search" starts with the craigslist ad they put up this afternoon: SF Writing/Editing Jobs: Restaurant Critic

It is so funny how VVM always insists on a "nationwide search" to fill positions. I guess we in the outer rim territories here just don't got no one with the smarts to do that fancified food writin'. We gotta get us one of them smart folks, from the East Coast, to tell us what's right and wrong....and endure their first year of "omg! gay people and non white people and Muni and homelessness" bullshit rants while they go on and on about the fucking pizza out here.

WhatEVER.
